the kron. 4 morning news to people in the hospital now with life-threatening injuries after a stabbing in san jose. waymo gets the green light to expand its driverless cars in the bay area. >> could be more announce today record breaking tourism numbers in the state of california. and governor newsom says california's tourism industry is back and better than it was before the pandemic. but the same cannot be said for san francisco. >> from the area's local news station, you're watching the kron. 4 morning news at no good morning and thanks for waking up with us on monday and daria and i'm james monday in may, we had snow. we had rain over the weekend. we're waking up the cold temperatures. what is anything

can i know this weekend. >> felt a little bit more like march than may, but that's okay. we've recovered. and yesterday was still a cool day, but a dry and clear what. and today we're up eating a lot of factors that we had yesterday looking outside from san jose, a few fair-weather clouds up about, but still plenty bright out there. skies are going to stay clear and importantly dry today. but we're also going to stay kind of cool. temperatures fell into the 30's for some of us this morning, especially in the north bay. we're back up in the 50's now and later on today, we will be seeing daytime highs climbing back into the 60's a lot like yesterday. i'll be talking the details of the rest of this forecast. still ahead, michael. >> hey, good morning, everyone. it is 901. taking a look at the roads right now. if you're using 101, those southbound lanes, things are kind of congested right now. all the lanes were blocked, but they are some of them, i should say, are back open its in san mateo. it's near east poplar avenue. they are currently clearing everything out. so it's causing delays on both sides. and there was 2

different separate collisions. so keep that in mind. if you are utilizing 101 this morning. again, everything is currently being cleared out and they do have some lanes opened. but you're down to at least one to 2 lanes on that side. those southbound lanes taking a look at the bay bridge, 19 minute commute into the city this morning. those metering lights are still on a live look at the san mateo bridge right now. it's only 14 minutes over that. taking a look at the richmond, sandra fell bridge 11 minute commute there. there's not too much going on there and those who are heading into the city this morning taking that golden gate bridge. it is a 20 minute commute. tara and james, we'll send it back to you. thank you. and speaking of that him, you too. it's going to get because falling controversy. waymo has just announced they're going to expand their services to the peninsula at this keeps happening. how we get around to look very different. 10 years from now. but >> let's talk about this expansion. more bay area city. 7 is a matter of fact. >> crawford's will trend is in one of them this morning. will. >> things could look very different. 10 years from now because if you are driving

around with a driver in front, how 2024 can you so what's going to happen is the waymo is heading south as far as the peninsula. yes, they've been in san francisco and they got the green light from the california public utilities commission, as well as the dmv to expand down the peninsula. not everybody is happy about it. mateo county actually trying to push back on it. but ultimately the state said it was ok for them to do that. despite all the controversy that has sutrounded waymo in san francisco a couple of months ago, we saw a waymo vehicle set on fire in san mateo county. they actually did not want it to happen for several reasons. they cite that they don't think it's safe be in a car without a driver. and 2, if you're coming from san francisco down to the peninsula. >> you're driving at the way speed. and they say, obviously, if there's an accident, it will be horrific at freeway speeds. but nonetheless, the state says

it's ok. >> waymo will start in a couple of weeks and many cities along the peninsula, including burlingame millbrae south san francisco daly city. and the goal is obviously to keep moving south and ultimately into santa clara county. i can tell you that for now when it starts, it's going to be employees only so you have to work for waymo. but if all goes well, you too. can call for a driverless taxi cab. >> all right. thanks a lot. well. >> 903, is the time. and cinco de mayo is celebrated throughout the bay area. over the weekend. we had thousands come out especially in san jose to celebrate in the downtown area. lot of fun was had in general. let's take a closer look at kron four's jack moment. >> easily more than 1000 people paraded through the streets right here in downtown san jose along cesar chavez plaza to celebrate cinco de mayo. but things here in san jose didn't totally go off

downtown area. you can see where police were investigating a was a sideshow and this double stabbing happened around 5.30, in the area of south king road and way. and one person that was out we spoke to said that it was supposed to be a day for celebrations, but you just never now. >> would say i'm not phase, but is is just part of life. and, you know, unfortunately things like that happen that people do do things that are reported it. but i don't think the majority other people should suffer at the scene where the mile. god bless and protect those people that were hurt. >> and at this point, we don't have any information about a possible attacker. it is 9, 0, 7, 1, person died in several crashes. well, several cars were involved in a crash that happened in san jose was a little after 1 o'clock in the morning on sunday morning in the dark, several cars collided on highway 101, near north mathilda avenue and that

area southbound 101 was shut down for about 3 hours while police investigated. we do not know the name of the person who died. >> well, elsewhere in the east 1 bay, oakland, police now investigating after a person was shot and killed near lake merritt. this is video from the citizen app. police say the shooting happened just before noon sunday on first avenue. victim's name not yet released, but in that same area driver crashed into the parking lot at america's best value inn on east 12th street. and that's what this video shows. police haven't confirmed if the shooting in the crash are connected, but that's something there looking into right now. meanwhile, police in open caught one person allegedly planning to take part in a side show last night, oakland police shared this image on ax saying the driver was identified as a side show promoter and rested for recklessly evading police. opd says it did have additional units out on patrol last night. prepare to respond to any sideshows if they popped up. well, an arson investigation is now under way following that fire that destroyed horn barbecue in

oakland. it broke out just a few days before thanksgiving last year and the owner of horn barbecue matt horn had always maintained that he thought it was a targeted arson. well, officials have now confirmed that fire was, in fact, deliberately set. so they're looking for a suspect now. meanwhile, horn barbecue did reopen last week as we reported. it's now part of horns. other restaurant called maddie's old fashion in downtown >> some appear on the iconic golden gate bridge, a testament to america's greatness. california's greatest. we could be more proud to announce today. record breaking tourism numbers in the state of california over 150 billion dollars tourism. spend unprecedented in our state's history. but the tourists don't get a view like that. they get a view like this driving over the golden gate bridge. got to be the governor to be able to go up there. >> and he was talking about the huge tourism gains that we this year in california. the governor just announced

tourists spent more than 150 billion dollars in california in the last year that surpasses the 144 billion dollar record that was set in 2019. so tourism is actually better than it was before the pandemic. governor newson says that also the state retained its title as the world's 5th largest economy. and we have a growing population now for the first time since the covid pandemic happen. according to the latest data, the travel industry supported approximately 1.2 million jobs last year, which is up 6%. tourists created about 4% more revenue in 2023 and spent about 5% more. now the governor did announce the big boost in san francisco, but specifically san francisco has not fully recovered from the rest like california is from the pandemic. san francisco made more than 13 billion dollars from tourism in 2023. that is a billion more than

2022. but still a billion shy of the pre-pandemic record which was set in 2019 at just over 14 billion dollars. and happening right now, the first day of the rsa conference is underway in san francisco. it's an annual cybersecurity expo. it's at the must go any center and it lasts for 4 days. starting today. the speakers included officials from google, secretary of state antony blinken. and there will be a special performance by alicia keys. >> well, the month may is asian american pacific islander heritage month. and this weekend, a korean american nonprofit celebrated 10 years of fundraising. the korean american community foundation of san francisco hosted its 10th annual had a gala last night at the ritz carlton. the event raises money for translation services. for grocery deliveries for elderly korean americans and scholarships for young students. this year. the gala recognized judge lucy koh

area. high pressure builds back in and this is going to keep the entire street state on a drier trend and definitely a warmer trend in the days to come. today's daytime highs are going to be pleasant in the upper 50's to low 60's at the coastline, making the coast a little brisk. the rest of the bay, though, definitely ok with those 60's and sunshine, not going to feel bad at all. if you like that cooler feel today and tomorrow are going to be the days that you want to get out there, especially for those of us in land that don't necessarily get a lot of this cool weather from this time of year forward into the summer fairfield and vacaville are only 2 spots getting up to 70 degrees today. most of the rest of us in the 60's. tomorrow's temperatures a little bit warmer in the low 70's inland 80's kickoff on wednesday and stay with us for inland areas through next weekend. michael. >> thanks, john. and good morning. everyone at the roads are looking good for the most part we were dealing with some issues on 1, however, things are starting to open back up. you can see there's actually 2

different collisions, one in redwood city, another in the san mateo area, specifically this one you see on your screen there, san mateo, it's east poplar avenue. at one point, all lanes were closed, but they've opened majority of those lancers only one lane that's currently closed. so it's causing some residual delays, but you should be good and on your way, by at least 9.30, according to chp. we'll keep an eye on that. but drive times for those who are leaving this morning. if you're in livermore heading to dublin, 14 minutes, dublin to fremont. 22 minutes, san leandro to milpitas. 29 minutes milpitas to sunnyvale. 10 minutes. so good drive times this morning. any up to concord? only 18 minutes if you're using westbound 80 crockett to the maze, it's a 17 minute commute. those were using the richmond. sandra fell bridge to 8 minute commute this morning. that bay bridge metering lights are still on. but it's only a 19 minute commute into the city this morning. southbound 8.80, oakland to to 38. 13 minute commute. no major congestion. there. taking a look at dublin to fremont. 22 minutes. if you're using 6.80, a live look

at that san mateo bridge, which is only a 13 minute commute. and lastly, we'll take a look at some of the south bay area's morgan hill, san jose. 11 minutes and that 101 commute right now, san jose to menlo park. only a 40 minute commute will continue to keep an eye on that accident on 101, near the san mateo area. i will send it back to to the desk. thank you, michael. >> time now to talk winners and losers on wall street. we have financial expert rob black joining us this morning. robber. i see where green across the board. that's looks pretty good up 100 points right now. what are you following? >> yes, the markets are catching a little bit of a breather sigh of relief after the friday jobs report was kind of goldilocks. it wasn't too hot. create inflation, but there were some job cuts to create some less spending, which inflation got create deflation. so its good for the fed. there's now a 75% chance we cut rates in september. wall street will move really the next level highcr when we start cutting rates. disease report earnings this week. that could be a big one

because they've been a controversial stock up. 25 1% this year. and really big underperforming last 5 years. >> and i'm anticipating a highly apple. i know they've got unveiling tomorrow. what was the theme? the theme was loosened up or something like that. what's the thinking on what that's about? >> and for probably not be all that great is not pretty well known in that spot. ipads in the pencil 10 years ago, 15 years ago when steve jobs is still around, he thought the ipad was replaced. the desktop in the desktop was be more like a truck for heavy-duty i pens really never been. that's been the phone that has replaced the fired the desktop computer. so we'll see tomorrow. there could be been 18 months since if that's new ipads, but i stopped buying ipads. i think probably 5 years ago. how much, you know? >> yeah, minds mice pretty long in the tooth because you're right. it's been a good handful of years. all we'll see what maybe what they

area, richmond, sandra fell bridge. it's an 8 minute commute over that. and lastly, that golden gate bridge, you're looking at a 20 minute commute into the city this morning. darien james, we'll send it over to you. all right. thank you, michael. tonight, 31 and students around the bay continuing to protest on college campuses supporting the palestinian people during this war that's going on in gaza. you can see some of the damage that they were collecting and picking up after the rain over the weekend. >> but they are preparing for more of what's to come. kron four's jack moment has more. >> well, some of the protests have been lasting for days, others weeks, but they're continuing to press forward here in the bay area with students wanting their schools to divest or be transparent about their financial ties with the nation of israel. but it may be quiet here in san jose state's campus. but pretty soon it may have its own protest as well. san jose's gearing up for graduation, but online, there's chatter about a pro-palestine protest happening on may. saw people next to health building just

like painting a big sign. robert cleveland is graduating soon and says he supports the ongoing protests, possibly reaching his i feel like it needs to be i wasn't. it's not happening with the government. >> at >> i mean, we're we're the ones that contain everything. coming up, head north to palo alto. this group of students a pro-palestine protest camp out on their campus. but i that everything's good posters soiled by the recent rain. but wooden pallets and tarps were able to keep students sleeping here. but friday evening, a counter-protester violated vigil of candles. students tell us they say police responded and took the counter protester away. kron 4 reached out to stanford pd but did not hear back and also give them some support for to know that other people also thinking about the moment live act lives in the area and donated supplies to stanford students. she says her daughters are part of the student encampments around the country and wants things to go peacefully. i will. they don't understand why we're fighting

the students because all they're trying to ask for is for cease-fire back in san jose state. it's very like is very sad seeing it, especially when. >> the asked people. robert cleveland says he supports the cause of pro-palestine student protests have thought about. >> i have. but my mom said no, because you don't want and says he's looking forward to the possible protest this week. gen z and next group are e future of the world, especially and we need to make a change now for not is not going to happen from the other san jose jack moment kron 4 news. >> in the east bay open police now offering a reward for anyone who has information on 2 homicides that took place about a year apart. they think the 2 might be connected. so police say multiple suspects now are being looked at in this homicide of henry to and the shawn roads to hot. it was shot and killed back on april of 2020 near foothill in church. apparently a grain nissan without license plates was seen pulling up to him

before multiple people got out and opened fire. he was just 23 years old. that car was later recovered and found to have been a rental at a reno, nevada. meanwhile, roads was also killed by gunshots in june of 2021. the following year that was on the lakeshore and brooklyn right in front of lake merritt. as you can see here on the map, anyone with information about either case is asked to contact oakland police its 9.34 and the man who was involved in a friday night standoff with the police on 80 in fairfield is in critical condition. the chp says. >> he shot himself originally. this was reported that he had died. but medical teams are able to revive him at the hospital. the standoff started after a multi-county pursuit that started in sonoma county on friday afternoon and eventually lead to a police standoff in fairfield is shut down 80 in both directions for hours and you can see the thousands of area drivers that were affected by this. and now the solano county da's office is handling the case. do you

have a right when you're on your social media site to not to see or to see what's in your feet to control that content. a lawsuit has just been filed against facebook. parent company, meta saying that they should allow people to unfollow. >> all of the content said to them by facebook's algorithms. the lawsuit asked the court to determine whether or not user's news feed falls into the category of objectionable material and they say that we should be able to filter out what we want to enjoy the platform. the lawsuit comes after meta sent cease and desist letters to app developers trying to create third-party software that would cleanse has declined to comment. >> well, the story you'll first here on kron, 4 health inspector shutting down a mcdonald's in oakland so you can investigate these photographs, these videos that come to light of an infestation inside. we're going to show him to you and they might be disturbing for a

look at kron four's less than good and has details. >> i was right in the parking lot of a mcdonald's located at 13, 30 jackson street in oakland when a health department employee started turning customers away, who were inside and in the middle of the drive-thru, i asked what was the cause of the store closure. this was her response from the health department. they have some sanitation and they need to clean up. >> what did you find mind telling >> and this comes while 6 mcdonald's employees are actively on strike from this location due to what they say is an unhealthy working condition. now, take a look at this video captured inside by a worker where you can see a live rat on the counter. now the mcdonald's employees say they have found rat eating food prepared for customers. the workers have now filed a formal complaint to cal osha with the help from the california fast food workers union.

>> when i saw that he is i was his is disgusting. and so this is problem not just the employees working on these conditions, but also for the coastal the communities i also spoke with the alameda county health department about these concerns. >> i was told the location did receive an annual inspection back in february and no violations were found. and once we share some of these allegations made by the employees, the department said they would be sending an inspector by to investigate. and that's what we saw on friday. and i did reach out to mcdonald's earlier before the store closure and they sent us this statement from the owner and operator joseph wong. it reads in part, it's important that employees have a safe place to come to work. when we became aware of the issue, we immediately contacted pest control and continue to work with them to address this. and we will continue to follow this story and we're hoping to learn more about what the next

everyone. the time is 9.47. taking a look at your roads this morning. 101 is looking fairly good. for the most part. all lanes are back open. just some residual delays in the san mateo area. there was a collision there. but again, all is well taking a look at 101 a little bit more in the south bay san jose to menlo park. a 33 minute commute. taking a look over at 6.80, southbound lanes, dublin to fremont 19 minute commute and some overall drive times for those are a little bit more inland livermore to dublin 12 minutes, dublin to fremont. 19 minutes, san leandro to milpitas. 31 minutes milpitas to sunnyvale. 7 minutes. a look over in the antioch area. everything is clear there. any end to concord. only a 15 minute commute. those who are in vallejo heading over towards the kraken, everything looks well there westbound he it's 17 minute drive from the crockett to the maze and then taking a look at our bridges. richmond, sandra fell bridge. it's a seven-minute commute that bay bridge, those metering lights are on. it's a 60 minute commute into the city from the maze and the san mateo bridge. it's a 13 minute
